Percy Jackson and the Olympians 5: The Last Olympian - Rick Riordan

All year the half-bloods have been preparing for battle against the Titans, knowing the odds of victory are grim. Cover

This is a very cute cover, like most covers in this series. But, like most covers in this series, they're not that special. I prefer the cover on the right as it looks newer and more spectacular.

Percy

I really enjoyed Percy in this book. I liked the River Styx idea and adding Achilles. Percy was more daring and way more confident than he was in the first book and so on. I liked how his relationship with Annabeth made such slow progress, and how we had to wait five books for an (official) kiss. The kiss was so cute too! I love my children!

Annabeth

I felt like Annabeth became herself again in this book. She got over Luke and because of this, she was more careless and lovely. She deserves so much, and I really liked the ending she got. She's been in love with Percy all this time, but I feel like she was afraid to admit it. I'm glad she did. I love her wisdom. She's no Hermione Granger, but she is still smart and great and I love how people need her help all the time.

The return of Thalia and Grover

Oh how I was glad to see them again! I really missed Thalia in the fourth book, and the Hunters are so interesting, Thalia is definitely one of my favourite female characters. I love Grover too, and he really deserved his ending. However, I'm a bit sad that we didn't see more of him with Juniper, as they are such a a cute couple.

Minor characters and additions

As I said before, I enjoyed the addition of Achilles. I was happy to see Mrs O'Leary again, because she's such a sweet.. dog?

Also, minor gods! Even though they didn't appear a lot, Morpheus and Nemesis were interesting, and I'd have loved to see more of them.

The climax

I really loved the building-up and the climax. I loved how so many creatures came together and worked together. Centaurs are such interesting creatures and including the statues was so smart! I love how Riordan comes up with all of these things (I know that he didn't make them, but he came up with the idea to use them in his book at a certain time). The ending was kind of sad but peaceful and expected at the same time. I was so happy when I found out what the Great Prophecy and all meant.

Writing style, my experience

I am in love with books like these. To make mythology your own and make it modern and interesting for people who are usually not interested in it is just amazing (I speak from experience, haha).

I love the moments where we can see that Percy is telling the story, and the little spoilers he gives always makes me laugh.

I have thouroughly enjoyed these series. I am not ready to say goodbye to them yet, which is why I'm reading Heroes Of Olympus (someday, I have a lot of series to read already...). I am almost sure that this is my favourite book of this series. 5/5 stars, it's so good...

Percy Jackson and The Olympians 4: Battle of the Labyrinth - Rick Riordan

Percy Jackson isn't expecting freshman orientation to be any fun. But when a mysterious mortal acquaintance appears at his potential new school, followed by demon cheerleaders, things quickly move from bad to worse.

In this fourth installment of the blockbuster series, time is running out as war between the Olympians and the evil Titan lord Kronos draws near. Even the safe haven of Camp Half-Blood grows more vulnerable by the minute as Kronos's army prepares to invade its once impenetrable borders. To stop the invasion, Percy and his demigod friends must set out on a quest through the Labyrinth - a sprawling underground world with stunning surprises at every turn.

Cover

Pretty cover, but just not my thing (right). These books are relatively old though, and covers have evolved since then, so it's acceptable. The covers always have something in them that also occurs in the books, so that's fun.

Percy
My lovely Percy. I can't tell you all how much I love him. He's just such a sweetheart, and oblivious sweetheart, yes, but still one of the coolest heroes I know. I am not going to lie and say he doesn't annoy me sometimes and that the choices he makes aren't always the best, but he is still smart and such a funny character.

Annabeth
In my last review I said that she annoyed me and she was getting more and more irritating. I still believe this, but I am starting to like her again. Although her jealousy (of Rachel) is so unnecessary, her wisdom and Percy's bravery just work really well together. I really, really wish to see them together. 

Rachel
Yes! She could easily be one of my favourite characters in the series. She is a mortal, but she is able to achieve and do so much because her courage. I also love that she has secrets surrounding her family and that she definitely isn't perfect. I believe that she will play a great role someday, maybe in the fifth book.

Luke/Kronos
So interesting. Honestly, I don't believe there's still a chance for Luke to be his old self again. Luke is probably going to die in the last book and it will be one of those tragic deaths that will make me cry. Before he dies, though, I am really interested in his family and I'd like to see some backstory. I'd love to learn more about his relationship with his dad (Hermes). It bugs me how Annabeth is still - obviously - in love with him. I really want him to die, but I also don't ? 

Other, new creatures
To be honest, I had no idea who Daedalus was before I read this book, but I really loved the addition of him. The Labyrinth was really interesting, although I expected more of it and I got bored during some chapters. Chapters I loved, however, were the ones with Calypso. She is so interesting and lovely, and she really doesn't deserve all the hard things she's been through. I hope to see her again.

The ending was great. I didn't really fly through this book, which was kind of a bummer, because I really loved the Titan's Curse. This is my least favourite book in the series, which is why I give it 4/5 stars.

IT'S NOT EVERYDAY YOU FIND YOURSELF IN COMBAT WITH A HALF-LION, HALF-HUMAN.

But when you're the son of a Greek god, it happens. And now my friend Annabeth is missing, a goddess (Artemis) is in chains and only five half-blood heroes can join the quest to defeat the doomsday monster.

Cover
Lovely covers, as always. loved the Blackjack (pegasus) reference on the cover. I prefer the left cover though, the right one looks a bit messy.

Percy
To me, Percy is just great. I love it when he reminds you - once again - that his life is a bit of a mess. He always gets in trouble, every dam time. You'd expect that this would make everything kind of predictable, but it wasn't. Every time he gets into trouble, it's still funny. 
For the character, I do not know what to say. Percy is just Percy, a bit of a nerd, but quite funny and precious.

Annabeth
Okay, I'm not going to lie, she is getting more and more annoying. I know that she is in love with Percy and all, but that doesn't give her the right to be so jealous. She doesn't have to drag Thalia down so much, just because Percy hangs out with her. And yes, I do like Annebeth and Percy and I'd love to see them together, but sometimes she's just annoying. Nevertheless, she's a great heroine. She's a great role model, she's fierce and smart, but she still needs help from her friends, so that's kind of realistic.

Thalia
I kind of love Thalia. At first, you'd think she'd be incredibly badass, but gradually, you'll learn more about her life and her fears, and you'll find out that she isn't that fierce after all. She actually has a lot of problems and a lot of daddy-issues (lol, Zeus is her father). I loved the ending for her too, I hope she returns in the fifth book (I've already read the fourth book). 

New Greek creatures/God
The new Greek mythology introduced in this book was seriously amazing. Nico. Finally. Appeared! (I haven't even read the Heroes of Olympus series, but ohmy, do I love the gay relationship) loved the addition of The Hunters, and I loved Artemis. I had some problems with the Hunter Zoe Nightshade at first, but I still fell in love with her. Also, ATLAS ! I really wanted him to appear, because I'd heard a lot about him. Riordan described them in such a great way, again. I can't help flying through his books. 

Overall, this book was another great book in this series. Riordan's books are simply amazing, I can't get enough of them. Because of his books, I can talk to my friends (who have subjects such as Greek and Roman culture) about Greek mythology! These books are just great to learn out of! However, I am noticing that this series is gradually getting darker, but that's probably because they are growing up. Can't wait to read the fifth book! 5/5 stars.
